Playwriting 101

In Playwriting 101, you will learn the basics of character, dialogue, and playwriting structure through in-class improv’s, take-home writing exercises and reading assignments.  In a FUN, accessible, encouraging and intimate (no more than 6 students per class!) atmosphere, you will write a monologue and two ten-minute plays.  In the final meeting of the class, terrific professional actors will rehearse and perform your work in a staged reading in a theatre space for an invited audience of friends and family!  (No previous playwriting experience required.)

It’s time to take that idea you’ve always had for a show, turn it into a real play – THEN SEE IT PERFORMED BY THE PRO’S!

This class is taught by award-winning playwright Matt Hoverman (2006 FringeNYC Award for Best Playwriting for his play IN TRANSIT, co-author of THE AUDIENCE (nominated for three 2005 Drama Desk Awards, including Best New Musical) and twice a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award for his plays THE COLLECTORS and BEDDY-BYE.
